The Argentina national soccer team is represented by eleven players and is managed by the Argentine Football Association, also known as the Federation of Italian Football Association (FCI). The home stadium of Argentina's national team is the Estadio Monumental Antonio Vespucio Liberti at Buenos Aires. The team was traditionally called Los Soldos but was changed in May 2021 when the coach changed the name to the more familiar Argentinian nickname “Argentinas.”

Argentina has a rich football history. The first matches of La Direa (The Eagles) were held against Italian giants Inter Milan in 1930. The teams are made up of players who have gone on to become well known internationals including Pele, Maradona, Raul, Gaudio, Ronaldo and captain goalkeeper Diego Maradona. The current team is made up of players who have only played a portion of the game in their national team and some that have never even traveled to Europe. As with any professional sport, there are various levels of play and players can compete with other countries professionally for a championship.

Since its humble beginning as a soccer team in nineteen thirty-one, the Argentine team has only qualified for the World Cup once, and that was in 1986 when they finished third in their qualifying group. Since its re-emergence as a viable footballing nation, this team has qualified for the last four World Cups. This is the highest number of World Cup appearances by any footballing nation.

Argentina has a very strong soccer tradition. The supporters of the team wear blue and white clothing and often chant, sing and dance. There is a very large following of fans in the country and many have travelled all over the world to be a part of the team. Many are diehard fans who attend each and every match with banners and whistles blaring both behind and in front of the goal.

Defender Diego Maradona is perhaps the most recognized name representing Argentina on the footballing world. When he was a youngster growing up in Buenos Aires, he used to kick a lot of balls around the park, but he always remained a fan of the Argentina team. A few years later, he moved to Boca Raton where he started his professional career with the Boca Ratonettes. He impressed coach Sam Bolles enough to earn a transfer to La Albirada, in Argentina, for the remainder of the season. It was here that he would make his first international appearance, as an 18-year-old against England.

Diego Maradona now plays for the country in the European nation of Switzerland. It is not known what his future intentions are but he has expressed interest in coaching or working abroad again. If this is the case, then he would join one of the many top sides around Europe. Argentina has many talented players with the ability to perform on a worldwide level. There are several youngsters like Diego Castro and Mauro Aires who have made big steps forward recently.
