Freddy Aduba is a South American football player currently on loan from Italian side Napoli. He is originally from Bolivia but has also featured for both Spanish and Italian sides. He is currently out on loan with Portuguese side Benfica in the season where they look to qualify for the Champions League.
Freddy Aduba started his career in the United States playing soccer for George Washington University (College) in College Park, Maryland. He made 21 appearances for the Terrapins and was an All-American senior. He was one of the team's more exciting players as he scored four goals in his NCAA career. However, it was not until he decided to give professional football a shot that he got a taste of it. After an impressive start to his career, he was then signed by Italian giants Inter and went on to play three seasons with the club.
Adu first played for the US at the under-16 level. He impressed coach George Pellini enough to be given a senior contract, where he spent two years with the Men in Red. After leaving Inter, Adu joined Argentine side River Plate for a spell, where he impressed once again. He was then released by River Plate in August 2021 and signed by Turkish side Fenerbahce. He went on to play for the national team under residency at the time of the World Cup qualifying campaign in March 2021. During the qualification campaign, Adu made an impressive goal against Slovenia and added another in his first match for Turkey against Saudi Arabia.
Freddy Adu's best position is right wing. He is excellent at creating chances from right, wide areas, but often finds himself isolated due to lack of support. This has been his only area of weakness thus far, but he has made great improvements since then. Recently, however, he has shifted to left wing once again and this has helped him play more games. If he continues to play in the same position, he may find it more difficult to break down opposing defenses since he often lacks pace.
Adu is also a good passer, but sometimes doesn't play to his potential due to a poor pass decision in the tackle. On more than one occasion, he has lost the ball when trying to play a forward pass. This has led to turnovers, which have been the downfall of many attacks by the Eagles. One of the best attributes Adu possesses is his ability to track back. Many of his passes have been assisted by teammates who were on the opposite side of the field.
Freddy Adu has impressed the coaching staff at Almeria much so that he was named as the starting striker for the club's friendly against Spurs on Satuday. Despite this start, it seems Adu needs to develop more attacking skills in order to fulfill his full potential on the international stage. The Eagles are expected to perform well in their upcoming World Cup qualifying games against Mexico and Ghana. With Freddy Adu and Ledo Fuitado leading the line, the Eagles have a good chance of advancing to the semis. Although they haven't proven themselves yet in the MLS, this is a team that fans should get excited about watching.
