Alex Morgan is an American international soccer player, currently for the Orlando Pride of the National Women's Soccer League. She is a striker for the Orlando club. For this reason, she is also known as “Tie” because of her naturally curly hair. Alex is originally from West Virginia but has lived in Florida since she was young. Here are some of her career statistics for the Orlando Pride.
Career statistics for Alex Morgan, as listed on the Orlando Pride website, include 14 goals and five assists. These are both good for first place on the team. However, it may not be enough to secure a win for the Pride against the rival Florida State University Seminoles. This game is about more than just a winning record though. It also means a competition against a team that has a number one overall choice in the league for the championship. If Alex Morgan and the Orlando Pride are going to accomplish their goal of winning the national championship, they will need the help of a few different players.
The most obvious pairing for Alex Morgan in her Orlando Pride days was her with goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris. The two played together for several years before injuries caused them to part ways. In the off season, however, they reunited for a one-game exhibition against fellow tournament participants Virginia Beach College. This game also marked the beginning of Morgan's tenure as a starter for the Pride.
The versatile Morgan is also used as a holding mid position, a right midfielder position, a right back position, and as a left midfielder. Because of her natural ability to play all of these positions, Alex is also often used as a centerback. In addition to playing defense, she is also used as a striker, which is rare for a holding mid or a goalkeeper.
The position of goalkeeper is a bit more tricky to evaluate. There are a number of different subs available for this position depending on the opponent, but it is typically the starting goalkeeper that is used. Usually the keeper will have to play with one of two types of defense: the sweeper or the deeper dugout. However, it is also common for a keeper to be used in a free position, especially if there is a center back with a good understanding of the position.
Overall, Alex Morgan is a natural-born keeper. She has the athleticism to track down a loose ball and then to run with it to keep the ball from being crossed by a defender. Also, she has a high soccer IQ and the knowledge of where to be on the field to successfully play her position on either side of the field. For these reasons, I expect that Morgan will be a staple of the Orlando Pride for many years to come.
