Formerly known as Wyomissing University, Sydney Leroux was named to the MLS team of the month. He is a former professional soccer player who played for several teams in the US and Australia before settling in Australia in 2021. His current career is mainly playing as a forward for the Orlando Pride in the National Women's Soccer League, playing for the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea in London. He is now hoping to gain more experience in playing in the MLS. Recently, he has been playing with the US squad during the recent international tournaments such as the Olympics. In fact, he became the third American to play in a three-game World Cup qualifying tournament.
As a player, he has already made four appearances in the English Premier League, playing the full 90 minutes in two of the matches. He has also played the full 90 minutes in two friendlies, one against Thailand in Australia and the other against Venezuela in South America. The 30-year-old Australian has also been nominated for the MLS player of the month for the first time.
Having come from a family with a strong soccer tradition, Sydney Leroux says that soccer is very close to his heart. He grew up near Boston, playing soccer with his friends in the streets. It was then that he decided to take up professional football. After many attempts to make it in the US, including stints with the Atlanta Falcons and New York Giants, he finally ended up in Orlando.
As an athlete, he knows that the support of the fans is critical. “The fans are like oxygen to me. They are so nice and they always lift you up when you are down,” he said. During his two years in Orlando, he has learned to be patient and determined to become a top player in his team.
Aside from leading the Pride in scoring, he has also shown great skills on the field. He is currently second in the MLS with six assists, after only Sporting Kansas City's Dom Dwyer. And while he admits that the pressure is on him, he is convinced that he is capable of doing great things. “The ceiling is really high for me. The sky is the limit.”
However, Sydney Leroux admits that there are also things that he still needs to learn. “I am not an expert on any team. I am not a planner. I just lead my team and they do the rest.” But with the right attitude, a great head, and the help of a good coach, he will definitely achieve the highest success in his career.
